No Excuses

Our current radar--whoa.

With weather like this there's no excuse for not curling up on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn and a loved one!  We are in the middle of the "Great November Nor'Easter of 2009".  It has been raining and blowing constantly for over 24 hours with no signs of letting up anytime soon.  School was canceled for Hunter (which garnered a double fist pump and "YES!" when I told him).  The wind gusts are up in the 50mph range--yikes!  I am guessing school will be closed tomorrow, too, but we'll find out for sure later this evening.  We have already watched "UP" twice and I know every Disney channel show theme song by heart!

Last week Teesha Moore posted a beautiful set of art journaling videos up on her blog.  I watched them(more than once) and have been working on my own version of her 16 page art journal.  Here's a peek of the first stage:

I can't wait to finish filling it up...and since the weather outside is terrible I think I might just get to work on it now!  If you haven't checked out her videos, do it!  She has such a magical way of journaling.

"I am" also a little sleep deprived today.  Hunter is fighting off some kind of virus so that means light sleep for mama.   Kindergarten should come with coupons for cold medicine and tylenol...I just hope he bounces back quickly because I am a total sucker when he's sick.  You want a GI Joe?  Will that make you feel better?  Okay.  How about ice cream?  Okay.  How about twenty hours of tv?  Okay.  Don't judge...I can't be the only one!  :)

A few layouts

It felt good to finally do a little scrapbooking.  Lately, most of my time has been spent reading.  I am trying to supplement Hunter's normal kindergarten "work" with phonics and handwriting at home.  I have been doing a lot of learning myself; scouring home schooling websites and ordering plenty of books that have to be read before I can start teaching.  I have to say that I am in awe of anyone who chooses to home school.  It is a serious J-O-B!  My main concern is that he has a good foundation for reading...because if you can read you can learn anything.  Stay tuned for updates and reviews but in case you are interested, this is the book that got me started.

I have also expanded my reading-out-loud to Hunter repertoire to include more chapter books other than the Magic Tree House Series.  Those books are great but they all follow the same formula and I was ready for something else for a while.  We are now knee-deep in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and he LOVES it.  It is so cool to see Hunter get excited over a story and I secretly love it when he begs for just one more chapter before bed.

It's Friday, I'm in Love

Wow, two weeks have sped by since the H started kindergarten.  His little 5 year old body has done pretty great considering the number of new people (read=germs) he's been around.  I did keep him home last Friday because of a low-grade fever.  It was Friday.  and kindergarten.  No guilt.  The adjustment has been strange since we spend our mornings together and our afternoons apart.  I am working on creating a schedule for those morning hours.  I don't feel very good about myself when the morning melts away in a flurry of Sesame Street and toaster pastries and then BAM it's time to go to school.  I want us to be more productive in the morning so we can relax after he gets home from school.  Any tips?

Since it is Friday (and I am in a particularly good mood because the husband is on his way back for the weekend) I thought I'd do a 'things I love' post.  So, in no particular order, here are some Friday Loves:

I so love this ring!  It is only available in a size 7 so it is a bit too big, but I am seriously thinking of buying it anyway!  There are lots of great pieces in the line, great lockets, necklaces and earrings, too.  Target always surprises me with the great stuff they get in.

I have always been a fan of SIGG bottles and when I saw this one on a recent trip to northern VA I snatched it up.  Keith Haring plus no plastic=win.

I am simultaneously reading these three books...fascinating and scary all at the same time.  If you are at all interested in where your food comes from I can't recommend them enough.  All can be found on amazon.com.

Don't call it a comeback (yet)

A little over a week ago sweet Morgan and I were emailing back and forth about daily cards and how good they are for getting the creativity flowing so (low and behold!) I started doing them again. 

 

I had forgotten how much I like making these little guys!  And I have to say it has been so good for me to put down tiny bits of what's going on in our end-of-the-last-summer-before-Hunter-starts-real-school craziness.  I wish I had started at the beginning of the summer but as they say, "better late than never"...right?

The background for today's beach-y card is a direct result of Vee's Delight Workshop.  The minibook class started today and runs the rest of the week.  I was so relieved and happy that she offered it again...I missed out last time due to travel and was super sad.  So far we have constructed our mini and gotten just a tiny bit inky:

 

I am so looking forward to my inbox tomorrow--I am ready to fill this baby up.

I scrapped!

Okay, I know it is only one tiny little page but it has been for-ever!  The August Studio Calico kit arrived yesterday and I was really excited to cut and paste.  Of course I ran out of yellow ink after I printed one photo but hey, one is better than none!

That is Hunter with one of his besties.  They were born only a couple of months apart and have been buds since the beginning.
